2 Men Charged in 2014 Shooting in Northeast D.C.

Nearly one year to the day after a man was shot and killed in Northeast D.C., police announced two arrests.

Dexter Motley, 25, was one of two men shot on the unit block of 46th Place near Central Avenue NE about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 13, 2014, Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief Peter Newsham said Friday. Motley died of his injuries. The other man survived.

One man, who police did not name, was arrested July 28 and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting.

A second man, Darnell Crews, 31, was arrested Thursday in connection to the same case and also charged with first-degree murder.

"The homicide is believed to be the result of an ongoing dispute," Newsham said.

The suspected shooter Newsham did not name also has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death on July 4 of Dwayne Gene Dillard, 23. Dillard was one of four people shot about 11:10 p.m. on the 2600 block of Douglass Place SE.

At least one other person of interest shown in a surveillance video distributed by police is still sought.
