2 Killed, 1 Injured in Spotsylvania County Shooting

A man shot his mother and sister before turning a gun on himself in Spotsylvania County, Va., Monday.

David Anderson, 43, shot and killed his 75-year-old mother, Jean Anderson, before shooting his 51-year-old sister, Laura Reeves, outside their home on McLaws Drive near the Chancellorsville Battlefield about 1:20 p.m., News4 Northern Virginia Bureau Chief Julie Carey reported. Reeves fled to a neighbor's house but David Anderson shot her a second time on the porch.

Anderson then returned to where he shot his mother and shot and killed himself next to her body, Carey reported.

Reeves was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds to her elbow and abdomen. She is out of surgery and is expected to survive.

Neighbors said the family had lived in the home for a year or two. They said the gunman was known as "the crazy guy." He sometimes lived in a tent or trailer behind the home, neighbors said.

The sheriff's office had no record of previous trouble with David Anderson.
