A burned-out car found in the Northern Neck of Virginia may be connected to the abduction of a 19-year-old woman, Virginia State Police say.
Juan Benavidez II, 19, of King George, Virginia, was arrested in Westmoreland County early Friday morning and charged with arson of a vehicle. The car police say Benavidez set on fire belonged to a family member of Megan Lorraine Metzger, a woman who was reported missing from Pamplin in central Virginia on Thursday.
Metzger was last seen Tuesday, but a critically missing adult alert was issused for her late Thursday after her family filed a missing person's report, said a spokesperson for Virginia State Police.
Authorities began looking for Benavidez the same day Metzger was reported missing, Virginia State Police say. The King George County Sheriff's Office told the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office to be on the look out for a suspect vehicle that could be headed their way, possibly on Route 3.
The car, a white 2004 Mazda sedan, was found a short time later in Westmoreland County, which is located on the Northern Neck of Virginia. Police say the car was on fire and was completely destroyed.
Metzger is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. She has blonde hair, blue eyes and a 5-inch scar on her right arm.
She may need medical attention.
