Police: 19-Year-Old Killed 17-Year-Old After Family Dispute

The suspect told police he never got along with his daughter's teenage uncle

A 19-year-old man has been charged with killing his daughter's teenage uncle in the teen's own bedroom in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Christian Leroy Matthews, 17, died after he was found in his room on the 1000 block of Mondrian Terrace. His death initially was deemed suspicious because officers saw marks on his neck.

Tysean A. Lipford, 19, was arrested Thursday in Matthews' death. He has a daughter with one of Matthews' sisters, police said.

Montgomery County police say Lipford confessed to the killing, claiming he overheard Matthews tell someone on the phone that he would kill Lipford and his family. The two never got along, he said.

Lipford told police he went in the teen boy's room while he slept and put him in a chokehold, according to court documents.

Police received a call Tuesday reporting a commotion coming from the basement of the house, where Matthews' room was. Officers responded and found Matthews unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

As part of the investigation, police questioned everyone in the house, where Matthews lived with his sisters. Lipford was questioned later and confessed.

Lipford is being held without bond and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
