16-Month-Old Girl Left in Truck for Hours Dies

A relative forgot he left a 16-month-old girl in his truck when he went home to take a nap, according to police.

The relative, who is not the child's parent, picked up the girl from an undisclosed location and was supposed to drop her off at the Highland Village Head Start Center in Baltimore, Md. Friday afternoon.

Instead, the man drove to their home in the 2700 block of South Paca Street and went inside to take a nap. Four hours later, police say he got in his car and drove to the Head Start Center to pick up the child. After being told the child was not dropped off, he reportedly ran back to his car and found the 16-month-old girl unresponsive.

She was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

The girl was identified as Sabriya Towels of the 2700 block of South Paca Street in Baltimore.

No charges have been filed and Towels' death remains under investigation.
