14-Year-Old Metro iPhone Theft Suspect Arrested

Metro Transit Police arrested a 14-year-old boy Wednesday in connection with six iPhone robberies on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines.

Police say the teen exclusively targeted passengers with the iPhone 6 model and robbed them while aboard trains and in stations between May 27 and June 15. The thefts occurred in and around the Minnesota Avenue, Eastern Market, Deanwood and Benning Road stations.

Police issued a public alert June 19 advising riders of the increase in thefts. They also gave ways for people to protect themselves.

Detectives used video footage to identify the suspect, a D.C. resident, who will face charges.

As of Wednesday, detectives were still investigating to determine whether the suspect was linked to any other cases.
