14-Year-Old Boy Sentenced to Juvenile Detention in Girl's Death

Pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in July

A 14-year-old Chesapeake boy convicted of fatally shooting a 12-year-old girl has been sentenced to juvenile detention.

Media outlets say Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Eileen Olds sentenced the boy Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in July.

Olds says the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice will determine how long the boy will remain in its custody.

Authorities say the boy fatally shot Carolyn A. Walker on Jan. 10 at an apartment complex where she and the boy both live. The boy told the judge he accidentally shot Walker while playing Russian roulette.
