11-Year-Old Girl Killed in Go-Cart Crash in Calvert County, Maryland

The go-cart had three children aboard when it overturned on Golf Club Drive in Dunkirk

An 11-year-old girl was fatally injured Sunday in a go-cart crash in Calvert County, Maryland.

The girl was driving a go-cart with a 7-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl aboard in Dunkirk, Maryland, when it overturned, the Calvert County Sheriff's Office said.

She was driving the go-cart on the street and then entered a cul-de-sac in the 2300 block of Golf Club Drive, at which point the go-cart overturned during a right turn, ejecting all three children, according to preliminary information from the sheriff's office. First responders were called about 11:15 a.m.

The 11-year-old girl was taken to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she died.

The boy was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. He was in stable condition, the sheriff's office said. The 12-year-old girl was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
