Businesses in Maryland added thousands of jobs in recent weeks while government jobs took a hit.
The private sector added 10,400 jobs last month, but government agencies shed 2,300 positions, according to a U.S. Labor Department report cited in the Gazette.
“Throughout this recovery, there will be some strong months and there will be some soft months,” Maryland Labor Secretary Alexander M. Sanchez said, according to the Gazette. “July was a stronger month for Maryland.”
Most of the new private sector jobs were in the hotel and restaurant industry, followed by administrative jobs, retail, construction, and scientific and technical positions.
Nationwide, some 117,000 jobs were created last month.
