Police Investigate Shooting Death of Metrobus Driver Inside Bowie Home

A Metrobus driver was killed in his upscale Bowie home Thursday. Police say they believe it was a drug-related robbery that turned into a murder.

Amir Ali Jr., 39, of the 9900 block of Chessington Way, died from apparent gunshot wounds. Police said they believe he was targeted because he was involved in the drug trade.

At 5:45 a.m. Thursday police received a call about a shooting in the neighborhood. When they arrived they found Ali dead inside his home.

Dozens of police cruisers converged on the home and spent the day canvassing the neighborhood and taking bags of evidence. They also towed four vehicles from Ali's driveway and garage, including a silver Mercedes-Benz, a silver Infinity, a black Range Rover and a white Ford pickup truck.

News4's Darcy Spencer reported there were no signs of forced entry and a single bullet was found in the street.

A relative told News4's Megan McGrath a family member got a frantic call Thursday morning, saying men had entered the house. Ali's wife and son were also reportedly in the home at the time, but they were not hurt.

Police said they are looking for two suspects, but they will continue canvassing for information in the neighborhood Thursday evening.
