1 Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 395

The crash occurred about 2 a.m. on the Exit 8A ramp to Washington Boulevard from I-395 northbound

One person was killed in a motorcycle crash early Tuesday on Interstate 395 in Northern Virginia.

The crash occurred about 2 a.m. on the Exit 8A ramp to Washington Boulevard from I-395 northbound, Virginia State Police said.

Witnesses say a motorcyclist was heading north on I-395 at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle ran off the left side of the highway and struck the cement jersey wall, according to police.

The motorcycle then crossed over all the northbound lanes and continued off the right side of the highway at the ramp, where the motorcycle then struck the guardrail. The rider was thrown off, and the impact with the guardrail caused the motorcycle to catch fire.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are in the process of finding and notifying the victim's next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.

The ramp was closed for several hours and reopened about 6 a.m.
