Police say speed, alcohol and a driver who was not wearing his seat belt all contributed to a fatal crash early Sunday.
Officers were called to the area of Fairfax County Parkway and West Ox Road after a 1988 Oldsmobile Bravada SUV traveling north with two occupants inside went off the road, flipped across the grass median and southbound lanes of the parkway, careened up the side of a hill trough a wooden fence, and came to a rest in someone’s back yard.
The driver of the SUV, 22-year-old Arturo Cruz Zalivar of Reston, was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second male passenger inside the SUV, a 20-year-old, was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police say.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, but police say speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
