1 Dead After Bay Boating Accident

Boat collided with day beacon off Tangier Island Friday night

One man died and a second was hospitalized after their boat collided with a day beacon in the Chesapeake Bay Friday night.

The Coast Guard said that one of the men contacted them at around 10:15 p.m. to report the collision and the injuries to both men. The man was able to moor the boat at a marina on Tangier Island, Va., where he was met by Accomack County EMTs.

A Coast Guard boatcrew transported the 37-year-old man to Crisfield, Md., where he was taken to McCready Memorial Hospital. The other man was pronounced dead.

Investigators have not disclosed the name of either man, nor have they disclosed the nature of their injuries. The age of the deceased man is unknown.
