1 Dead After Fire Engulfs Anne Arundel County Home

A man was killed after flames engulfed a home in Arnold, Maryland, Tuesday morning.

An ambulance returning from a previous call saw the flames from the Severn River bridge at 1:30 a.m., Anne Arundel County fire officials say. Firefighters eventually determined the fire was coming from a home on the 1700 block of Winchester Road.

"We don't know how long it was burning inside before it broke through the roof," said Lieutenant Erik Kommeyer with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Two men were inside the home at the time of the fire, but only one of them was able to get out of the house safely.

Fire officials say the second man died at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
