1 Dead, 7 Injured in Manassas Crash

4, 6 and 17-year-old injured in crash

A 19-year-old Manassas woman is facing several charges following a crash that killed one person and injured seven others, including a 4 -year-old boy.

Police say Alejandra Valeri Espinoza-Velasquez was traveling southbound in the area of Dumfries Road and Toddsbury Lane just after 4 a.m. Sunday when she lost control of her 2004 Ford Explorer. The vehicle left the road and rolled multiple times before landing on its roof.

Four of the vehicle's nine passengers were ejected.  Investigators say five occupants were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, including a 4-year-old boy who was not properly restrained. 

Doris Aucapina-Espinoza, 43, of Rockwood, NY, was one of those unrestrained passengers and died at the scene.

The 4-year-old boy suffered significant injuries while the remaining passengers, ages 6 to 49, sustained injuries that are not life-threatening.

Speed, alcohol, and drug are not believed to be factors in the crash, authorities said.

Espinoza-Velasquez is charged with two counts of felony child neglect, two counts of felony injure the health of a child, one count of reckless driving and one count of failure to secure a child in a safety seat.
