51-Year-Old Woman Charged in Fatal Shooting Outside Md. McDonald's

A 51-year-old grandmother is charged with murder and attempted murder in a double shooting in the parking lot of Waldorf, Maryland, McDonald's, and the motive appears to be an ongoing child custody dispute.

Robert Michael Mange, 25, and his 24-year-old wife drove from Virginia to the restaurant in the 11000 block of Mall Circle Wednesday evening to pick up her two young children, who had been staying with their grandmother, Caroline Conway.

Instead of handing over the children, Conway allegedly got into Mange's car and shot him, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

"Miss Conway produced a handgun and shot the male victim, Mr. Mange," Charles County Sheriff's Office Capt. Stephen Slavas said. "The female victim tried to flee the vehicle. As a result, Miss Conway, the shooter, shot the female victim in the back."

Both victims were taken to an area hospital, where Mange died overnight. The woman is expected to survive, authorities said.
