One person was killed and another was injured in an accident in Crofton, Md., early Wednesday morning.

Police say the driver of the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling westbound on Davidsonville Road, just east of Duke of Kent, when they lost control of the vehicle around 1:30 a.m. The vehicle struck a curb, left the road and struck a tree.

Both the driver and the passenger were ejected.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene; the passenger was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is in stable condition.

Investigators say speed, alcohol and lack of occupant protection could be factors in the crash.

Neither victim has  been identified.
