A D.C. police officer shot and killed a man after police say the man advanced toward the officer while armed with a hunting knife and a second weapon.
The officer fired at the man about 1:50 p.m. on the 5300 block of Dix Street NE. The officer was on patrol when the man confronted her with a large hunting knife, the Metropolitan Police Department said. Fearing for her life, she drew her weapon and shot him in the chest, police said.
The officer called for backup and an EMS crew rushed the man to a hospital, where he died. He was not identified by police immediately.
The officer was not hurt during the incident, which is under investigation.
