Woman Killed at Md. Apartment Complex

A woman was killed in broad daylight at an apartment complex in Greenbelt, Md., Tuesday.

At about 2:30 p.m., two 911 calls sent Prince George's County police officers to the Gates of Cipriano garden apartments in the 8500 block of Greenbelt Road, police said. One caller said there was a woman in a stairwell and she appeared to be very badly injured. Another reported a shooting, but it's not clear whether that caller heard gunshots or just assumed the victim had been shot based on her appearance.

Police found 49-year-old Jacklyn Ann Bass suffering from trauma to the upper body. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

In a parking area near the entrance, detectives located a dark green Honda sedan believed to belong to the victim. It was towed to the police lab for forensic analysis.

The complex does not have security cameras, and since most of the people who live there work during the day, so there were not a lot of people around at the time of the woman's death.

But about 50 feet from entrance, tree trimmers were working. Police interviewed them to see if anyone saw anything.

An extensive crime scene was set up, and the medical examiner went to the scene.

An exact cause of death has not been determined.
