A winter weather advisory remains in effect for portions of the Washington region through Wednesday morning.

More freezing rain, sleet and icy conditions are possible Wednesday morning well north and west of D.C., as heavier rain is expected to fall throughout the rest of the area.  Temperatures began to warm overnight, allowing for any freezing rain to change to just rain.

Rain will continue through Wednesday morning but is expected to end Wednesday afternoon, meteorologist Bob Ryan said. Up to another inch of rain is possible.

High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s to mid-40s Wednesday.

Meteorologist Tom Kierein said Tuesday morning that icing was reported along the Blue Ridge Mountain and in the northern Shenandoah Valley but that elsewhere the precipitation was rain.  There was a mix of sleet and rain in parts of Montgomery, Prince George's and Howard counties Tuesday morning.

Kierein said road temperatures were above freezing in most areas, so any icing would only occur on tree limbs and power lines.

Warmer air came in throughout the day Tuesday, changing most wintry precipitation into rain.
