Virginia Looks at Ways to Ease Inauguration Gridlock
Officials draft alternates to Route 50, Lee Highway

WASHINGTON -- Authorities in northern Virginia are looking at plans to ease gridlock during the inauguration.
Jay Farr, Arlington's deputy chief of police, says officials are drafting alternative routes in case traffic backs up on Route 50, Lee Highway, Columbia Pike and other primary bus routes in Virginia.
Officials are concerned highways could get too packed to allow emergency vehicles to pass.
Farr says police will try to let drivers know about road closings with variable street signs.
Authorities from across the Washington region are working with inauguration planners to help prevent transportation woes.
