Va. Tech Plays Role in Fort Hood Shootings Response

College dealt with worst mass shooting in U.S. history in '07

Virginia Tech administrators have taken a role in the aftermath of the Fort Hood shooting spree.

The school, which dealt with the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, has been advising Pentagon officials on how to respond to the mass shootings at Fort Hood.

Va. Tech is also where shooting suspect Nidal Malik Hasan received his undergraduate degree.

University spokesman Mark Owczarski says the school's president and about a dozen administrators had a teleconference with miltitary officials Friday.

He says Pentagon officials asked for guidance on how to respond to the shooting spree at the Texas military base. The discussion
ranged from how to help victims' families to accommodating large numbers of news media.

The campus shootings at Virginia Tech in April 2007 left 33 dead, including the student gunman, and about two dozen injured.
