Families hoping to stretch their budgets this holiday lineup for free turkeys from the Redskins and their charitable partners.

LANDOVER, Md. -- A long line snaking back and forth outside of FedEx Field began forming in the early morning hours as the Washington Redskins passed out turkeys to families trying to stretch their budgets Tuesday.

Redskins' players, the Hogettes and volunteers from FedEx, Harris Teeter, Ryan Homes and Wachovia distributed 3,000 Thanksgiving food bags to families on a first-come, first-served basis, Harris Teeter provided the turkeys, while Operation Blessing contributed packaged and fresh food to complete the meals.

Also, women received toiletries, and children were given toys.

Officials said they believed they had enough to accommodate everyone, but some people went home empty-handed. Volunteer director Brian Hughes said there was a dramatic increase in turnout compared to last year.

People began lining up for the food bags as early as 2 a.m.
