Local Haiti relief drives are popping up in our area as ordinary citizens as well as organizations do what they can to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.
Firefighters in Landover Hills, Md., made it easy to give today with their "Stuff-A-Truck" event at the Cranford-Graves Fire Service Building on Webster Street.
The Prince George's County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Association and the International Association of Fire Fighters came up with the catchy "Stuff-A- Truck" name, sent out the call to local residents and used their trucks to store and deliver the donations.
Local residents answered the call. They came with bags and boxes filled with clothes, bottled water, baby food, non-perishable food items and other much-needed supplies. In a matter of hours the trucks were stuffed. Firefighters had to use extra trucks to hold all of the donated stuff.
Then, the drive moved to the Wal-Mart on Annapolis Road in Landover Hills where more donations were collected. The trucks will drive to the Haitian Embassy in D.C. for delivery to Haiti.
