Developer wants to bring slots to location near BWI

New York now offers one-stop shopping for all your addiction counseling needs.

If a Baltimore-based developer has its way, you could soon lose a few quarters in some slot machines next time you head  to BWI Airport.

Heffner & Weber have proposed selling a 50-acre site near the airport and the BWI parkway to one of the slots developers, reports the Sun.

One company is working on a proposal to bring slots to nearby Arundel Mills mall, but some local residents are balking at adding flashing lights and neon to the already subdued mega-mall, which has live jousting and a giant Egypt-themed movie theater.  One-armed bandits would apparently be too much, and not in good taste.

With that proposal in limbo, Heffner & Weber are offering an alternative likely figuring the location, which would prey on visitors coming to BWI either by car or by train, would be too hard to pass up.

So far, the backers of the Arundel Mills proposal aren't biting, telling the paper, "There is only ONE application and only ONE possible location for a gaming facility in Anne Arundel County, and that is Arundel Mills! Period, end of the story."

For now, the prospects of seeing zombie-eyed old ladies and men fritter away their social security checks one quarter at a time near BWI are on hold; they'll have to pass on through to Charles Town or hop on a convenient flight to Vegas.

Truthfully, it's probably a good thing it hasn't yet happened.  Can you imagine how difficult it'd be getting through a security line when everyone has pockets and pockets full of change?
