Normal 0 Family members of a Pentagon official found dead in a Delaware landfill said they feel like detectives working on the case are not being forthcoming with them.
An attorney said John Wheeler's family has requested forensic reports, search warrants and surveillance video related to the case. Investigators said they want to keep information sealed and out of the media.
Wheeler's body was found in a Delaware landfill Dec. 31. A medical examiner determined Wheeler died of blunt force trauma injuries. The family lawyer said they only learned of the coroner’s findings through media reports.
Witnesses and video surveillance cameras indicate that Wheeler was seen wandering around Wilmington in a disoriented manner in the days before his body was found.
Wheeler was a former officer in the U.S. Army. He was also a Vietnam veteran and the first chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. Wheeler led the multi-million dollar venture to create the memorial wall in Washington.
In addition to serving abroad, Wheeler served in the administrations for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. He was also the special assistant to the secretary of the Air Force.
Wheeler’s family is offering a $25,000 reward for information in the case.
