Six Figures to Feel Financially Secure?

More Depressing Financial News

How much money do you need to make to feel financially secure?

A new study says that in Fairfax County -- the most expensive in the area -- a family of four needs to bring home about $108,000 a year to feel secure, reports WTOP. That figure includes housing, food, a doctor and a small emergency fund.

Montgomery County families, who said they needed $80,000 two years ago, now say they need $104,000, accoring to the study by Wider Opportunities for Women.

Audrey Singer, a demographer with the Brookings Institution, says the recession is a big reason behind the increase. "There's been a lot of concern about how people can make ends meet in a region such as this one, which has been fairly buffeted during the recession," Singer told the Washington Post.
