Train service on the Yellow and Green Lines between L'Enfant Plaza and Mt. Vernon Square was halted today after Metro received reports of smoke between the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station and the Archives-Navy Memorial Station.
According to a preliminary report, the smoke started at 1:45 p.m. and was caused by a burning insulator on the track.
The disruption has been cleared, but D.C. Fire and Rescue workers are still on the scene, according to Metro.
Trains were sharing the same track between the L'Enfant Plaza and Mount Vernon Square stations during the incident, and delays continue on both lines.
Shuttle buses were available at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station at the time.
