At least a half-dozen dogs -- including puppies -- are in protective care after police pulled them Thursday from what they suspect is a dogfighting ring.
Officers found the dogs in a home on Sixth Street in southeast Washington.
Two adult dogs and four puppies are now in protective care at the Washington Humane Society. Investigators are still trying to determine whether the animals were part of a breeding or training facility.
A community tip opened the case. Officers gathered enough information and had probable cause to raid the home. They found security cameras outside the house.
Police have made no arrests yet and the investigation is still ongoing.
"If you're going to be that cruel with an animal, who knows what else might be going on," D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.
Investigators said there was no evidence that any dogfights were conducted inside the house.
