The deputy public defender for a woman accused of killing her 2-year-old granddaughter said the only explanation can be the woman’s mental health issues.
Carmela Dela Rosa is accused of dropping Angelyn Ogdoc over the side of an elevated walkway at Tysons Corner down 50 feet to the ground while leaving the mall with family, including the child’s mother, Monday night. Angelyn died early Tuesday morning.
Fairfax County Public Defender Dawn Butorac said there is evidence Dela Rosa was plagued by mental health issues for 10 years, and the recent death of her brother could have compounded problems.
Prior to the child’s death, Dela Rosa was known as a loving grandmother who often cared for her granddaughter while the toddler’s parents were at George Mason University. Kat Dela Rosa Ogdoc and James Ogdoc met in high school and had Angelyn when they were 20. She has graduated and works in school management and he is finishing his studies at the school.
A neighbor said he never knew Dela Rosa was having difficulties.
