A Prince George's County Police officer was shot Monday morning in the Bowie area, just days after a Maryland State Police officer was shot and killed in the county.
County police said Cpl. Edward King was trying to make arrests in an attempted robbery at about 10 a.m. outside a BB&T Bank at Old Chapel Road and Laurel Bowie Road.
Police said the culprits tried to rob a person who was carrying money from a nearby Exxon gas station to the bank, and King, who was off-duty, spotted them.
King got into a physical altercation with one of them, and soon both were grappling for King's gun. The gun discharged -- it is unclear how many times -- grazing King's leg and hitting the suspect in the hand. That suspect, Tarintini Jean-Louis, of Brooklyn, N.Y., is in custody, charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, first- and second-degree assault, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. A second suspect, 20-year-old Bernard Hasan Tyler, of Mt. Rainier, also was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. A third person fled the area in a dark green Mazda with tinted windows.
Officials said the injuries to King and the suspect were not serious.
Trooper Wesley Brown was shot and killed early Friday morning outside of an Applebee's restaurant on Donnell Drive in Forestville, Md., possibly over an unpaid bill.
Sources told News4 that two people have been taken into custody in the case and will be charged.
