Reagan National Returns to Normal After Flooding

The water was ankle deep in some areas

Passengers heading to US Airways flights at Reagan National Airport may be in for long lines and waits after all flights before 10 a.m. Sunday were cancelled due to flooding at the airport Saturday.

The delays in terminal C may also affect passengers on other flights.

The flooding at the airport began when a water pipe connected to the outside of terminal C broke around 3:20 p.m. The pipe supplies a fire hydrant.

About a dozen gates were closed in the terminal C baggage claim area as the water reached ankle-deep levels, according to Courtney Mickalonis, a spokeswoman with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

There were also very large puddles that formed on the main terminal level as well, just outside the security gate, WeLoveDC noted.

Terminals A and B weren't affected by the incident and should operate as normal Sunday, Mickalonis said. Terminal C has since reopened.

US Airways spokesman Todd Lemacher says about 400 to 600 people were waiting for departing flights when the flooding started and were rerouted to another terminal on Saturday.

After the problem was located, the water was turned off about two hours later.

US Airways passengers with flights scheduled for this morning should call the airline at 800-428-4322 or call the airline directly before coming to the airport.
