MARC Train Breakdown “Outrageous”: O'Malley

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley said a MARC train breakdown that stranded hundreds of passengers for hours earlier this week was "absolutely outrageous."

O'Malley made the comments during a Board of Public Works meeting Wednesday morning, where he also said he had received an apologetic phone call from a top Amtrak official about the incident.

MARC, Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration are investigating why the train to Baltimore and Perryville, Md., broke down shortly after departing from Washington on Monday evening, leaving passengers without air conditioning in 90 degree temperatures. Train traffic was also delayed Tuesday evening in the aftermath of a storm, and another train was stopped Wednesday evening for a mechanical problem.

The investigation will determine the cause of the breakdown and whether proper procedures were followed.

O'Malley said he will ride a MARC train Thursday morning.
