The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted down a chance to build a Washington Redskins Hall of Fame.

The hall was related to a proposal to create a marketing partnership between the team and the county, the Washington Post reported. That would have made Loudoun County the corporate home of the team. The county's logo would have appeared on the Redskins Web site, the county would have been able to use the Redskins' name on its literature and Web site, and the county and team would have worked together to create tourism packages for fans visiting the team's training camp in Ashburn.

The marketing partnership would have cost $100,000 in taxpayer funds, the Post reported. The hall of fame would have cost the county $150,000.

Supervisor Lori Waters argued that the deal could generate millions for the county over time. Some supervisors were concerned that the deal was too open-ended, while others thought it an improper use of taxpayers' money, the Post reported.

The proposal was defeated 5-4 Wednesday.
