Manassas police have charged a veteran U.S. Capitol Police officer with distributing child pornography over the Internet. Dennis Bell, 55, of 3900 Pepperidge Court in Lake Ridge, was arrested Thursday after a four-month investigation, city police Sgt. Tim Neumann said. (Insidenova.com)

WOMAN'S SPIT MAY LAND HER IN JAIL
A well-aimed stream of saliva has a Spotsylvania County woman facing two years in prison. A county jury recommended that sentence yesterday after convicting 30-year-old Tamara Garcia of a felony for spitting into the mouth of Sheriff's 1st Sgt. Kevin Walsh. Garcia was convicted of assault and battery on a police officer. She will be formally sentenced July 22 by Judge J. Howe Brown. According to testimony, the assault occurred Aug. 14 after Walsh was nearly run off the road by a driver on Courthouse Road. (Fredericksburg.com)

CELL PHONES AS LEARNING TOOLS?
A proposal to ban the use of cell phones in Prince George's County public schools does not have the full support of Superintendent William R. Hite Jr., who believes the devices could be used as learning tools. "Students operate at 100 miles an hour outside of school, but once they get to school they slow down because of [rules] we impose," he said Friday at Discovery Education's Administrator Day, in Silver Spring. DC COP CARJACKED, OR GAVE THE SUSPECT A RIDE...
A District of Columbia police officer whose service weapon was stolen during what he said was a carjacking on his way home from work later admitted to detectives that he gave one of the suspects a ride for money, according to court records.
Police said Tuesday that Officer Kevin Carey was driving to his home in East Baltimore late Monday when a woman stepped in front of his car and a man took the vehicle at gunpoint. But the officer was traveling away from his home at the time of the incident, raising questions about his story. (Baltimore Sun)
