There were two recent cases of indecent exposure on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail in the Ashburn area in Virginia, prompting the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to issue safety tips for trail users.
On Nov. 2, a woman was walking on the trail at about 4 p.m. in the area of Smith Switch Road when a man exposed himself. He was wearing a black beanie hat, tan North Face pullover and blue jeans.
On Nov. 6, in the area of Clairborne Parkway, a man exposed himself to another trail goer. The suspect in this case wore a black workout shirt with a spider web design on the front and black sweatpants.
The victims gave differing descriptions of the flashers.
In light of those incidents, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents of safety tips when using paths and trails:
- Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings and don’t wear earphones.
- Walk, run, hike and bike with a partner or group.
- Let someone know when you are on the trail and when you expect to come home.
- Don’t use paths or trails when it is dark out.
- Carry a cell phone.
The trail is closed after dark for safety and anyone there is trespassing. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said if you see anything suspicious or have information about these recent indecent exposure cases to call the Criminal Investigations Division at
