Howard County police were busy on the highways Thursday.

A man in a white pickup truck led police on a chase on Route 32 Thursday afternoon. Police attempted to stop the truck on an open warrant for theft for 40-year-old Stephen Zombro, but Zombro fled, police said.

The truck weaved on the roadway and struck several squad cars before police were able to box the truck in and ram it into a guardrail to disable it.

Zombro immediately emerged from the truck with his hands, and police took him into custody.

One police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Howard County General Hospital.

Zombro was taken to Howard General for evaluation and appears to have no serious injuries.

Police internal affairs are investigating the arrest. Chief William McMahon said he has seen video of the arrest and is concerned about some actions taken.

Zombro faces charges of fleeing and eluding police, assaulting law enforcement officers, possession of heroin and crack cocaine and reckless endangerment.

Earlier Thursday, Howard County police chased three bank robbers through Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties into Montgomery County, where one was shot and killed by police. Police are searching for the other two.
