A new plan in D.C. is providing a critical service in an unlikely place.
Starting Oct. 5, while you're at the DMV renewing your license, you'll be able to get tested for HIV as well.
The District is partnering with the nonprofit group Family and Medical Counseling Service to provide the free 20-minute tests at the Penn Branch location in Southeast for a year.
According to the Washington Post, city leaders chose that location because they have seen a spike in HIV infection rates in that area.
But it's not just a benefit for your health, but for your wallet as well. Participants will receive up to $15 to help cut down on their DMV costs, and the program also offers immediate counseling and medical attention.
The group expects they'll test approximately 3,000 people.
