The $1 surcharge per trip in a D.C. taxi due to high gasoline prices is no more.

The D.C. Taxi Cab Commission rescinded the $1 fee Tuesday in what it called an emergency action.  The fee officially goes away at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

Commission Chairman Leon Swain Jr. said taxi cabs are required to remove current gas surcharge stickers and post a notice in their cabs.

Many riders had complained about the surcharge recently as gas prices continued to drop across the country.
