Families Still Displaced After Tree Slices Through Building

Apartment Building Condemned Due to Storm Damage

Several families in Gaithersburg are scrambling to find a place to live after a tree crashed through the roof of their apartment complex during last week's storms.

An 80-foot tree sliced through the middle of their apartment building on South Frederick Avenue.

At least eight people were hurt; all are expected to recover.

But the building was condemned because of the severe damage. The landlord put people up in a hotel. But it's only paid for until Tuesday. So the city is stepping in and promising none of the families will be put out on the street.

The Red Cross is working with residents to help them find permanent places to stay.
