Adams Morgan Offers Meter-Beating Parking Rate

You don't even have to park on the street

Increased parking fees in D.C. have residents digging deeper into their wallets and breaking into their piggy banks.  Many have been staying away on the weekends since city officials started charging on Saturdays and Sundays.

In January, parking meter rates increased to $2 per hour in so-called "premium zones," including Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Chinatown, U Street and the Mall. In normal demand zones, rates are $0.75 per hour.

But the Adams Morgan Partnership  Business Improvement District, with the help of Councilmember Jim Graham, has worked out a deal for cheaper parking.

Parking in the Colonial Parking garage at 2328 Champlain St. NW now costs $6 for up to four hours. All you need is a validation stamp on your parking slip from any business in Adams Morgan. This deal is available seven days a week.

However, if you park for more than four hours, you'll be charged the maximum fee of $15. Regular rates apply if you are not out by 5 p.m. If you leave your car in the garage after 5 p.m. on a Friday or Saturday, the maximum $17 rate kicks in.

There is a  catch.   The $6.00 rate is only good up to four hours. You will incur the maximum fee of  $15.00 for any fraction of time after that.  Regular rates apply if you are not out by 5pm.  If you leave your car in the garage after 5pm on a Friday or Saturday, the maximum $17.00 rate kicks in.

If your'e only staying for 1-2 hours, the previous discounted rate of $2 with validation still applies.

There are other discounts at the Colonial Garage at 1711 Florida Ave. NW. Four or more people who sign up together can get a $150.00 monthly lease. Daily rates at that garage are $8 if you're out by 5 p.m.
