Chinatown Metro Station Possibly Getting More Artsy

D.C.'s Chinatown, in its modern spruced-up incarnation, is best known as the location of the Verizon Center and a raft of chain retailers adorned in calligraphy. So a little authentic, original art couldn't hurt to spice the place up a bit.

Putting that art in an otherwise drab location such as a Metro station isn't the worst idea, either. That way, it stands a chance to attract some notice it otherwise wouldn't get if it were competing for your attention with all the loud video boards aboveground.

The proposed objet du art would be a mural by Martha Jackson Jarvis, who has already done one for the Anacostia Metro station.

The Chinatown Community Cultural Center will discuss the possible addition of the mural, which would be placed at the Verizon Center entrance (7th & F streets) of the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro station, in a public meeting this evening at 6 p.m. at 616 H Street, NW, Suite 201.
