Gunshots disturbed the early morning hours of an otherwise quiet neighborhood in New Carrollton, Md.
Rattled residents called 911 about 6 a.m. Friday. Officers arrived at the intersection of Inlet Street and Jodie and found the body of Alexis Peña Cuevas in a front yard. The 30-year-old had been shot several times.
Cuevas did not live at the home or even the neighborhood where his body was found, investigators said.
Neighbors said they won’t let the disturbing discovery scare them away from their beloved community.
Susie Simmons called the neighborhood a normally quiet and safe place to live.
“I think I opened up the door and looked out and said, ‘Oh my God, the police are out there!’’’ she said. “... We’ve never had anything in our neighborhood quite like this.”
No suspects are in custody in the case.
