Shots were fired after the robbery of an armored truck in Laurel.

A busy shopping day was interrupted by a gun battle in the middle of a Laurel parking lot Wednesday morning.
 
Three to four men heavily armed with automatic and assault weapons and dressed in dark clothing and masks robbed an armored truck outside a Bank of America at 10:35 a.m., police said.

 
The robbers took several bags of money, and as they drove off, a security officer fired at their SUV, blowing out its back window. The robbers returned fired and were able to get away.
 
The robbers ditched the stolen Jeep they were driving for another SUV, investigators said. They remain on the loose.
 
Laurel police and the FBI are investigating.
