Tuberculosis Confirmed in Catonsville High School Community

Baltimore County health officials are investigating after a case of tuberculosis was confirmed in the Catonsville High School community.

Health officials announced Thursday that the patient is being treated and poses no risk to the community.

Officials said they identified a small number of people who had significant contact with the patient and need to be tested. They said the Department of Health will follow up with anyone else who needed testing and the process is on-going.

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by bacteria that usually affects the lungs. It is spread from person to person through the air, but experts say a person needs to be in close contact for an extended period to become infected.
