Facing Amputation, Man Saves Leg With Honey

An area nurse suggested using honey to help cure a man's knee infection.
Franklin Lloyd seems to have the right appreciation for an ancient healing remedy -- honey.
Doctors at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York said that Lloyd was in danger of losing his right leg because of a stubborn wound.
But that's when clinical nurse Mary Brennan had the sweetest of ideas -- using medihoney, a honey-based medical product.
Lloyd said that within a month, he saw significant improvement, and Thursday, he showed WNBC a right knee that is almost fully healed.
Lloyd, 68, had a kidney transplant some years ago and worried about the implications of aggressive treatments for his leg.
"The fear was that I'd have to trade my leg for the kidney," he said.
