The director of D.C.'s HIV/AIDS, Hepatits, STD and TB Administration is stepping down after holding the post for three years.
While D.C. still has the highest HIV rates in the country, Dr. Shannon Hader has been credited with making improvements in how the city addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic,including an increase in testing and early treatment.
A spokeswoman for D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty said Hader is taking a job in the private sector.
Dr. Nnemdi Kamanu Elias, currently the administration's chief medical director, will serve as the interim director while the city conducts a search for a permanent replacement.
