Bed Bugs Found at D.C. Hospital

Hospital using chemical treatment in the infested area

One Washington hospital is applying a chemical treatment to part of its facility after a patient reported seeing a bed bug.

A spokesperson for United Medical Center in southeast Washington said the patient complained about being bitten last Tuesday. The bed bugs were found in two rooms, and patients have been moved from the area where the bugs were detected.

The D.C. Department of Health said UMC is being “very proactive” in its handling of the situation.

In fact, by law, the hospital didn’t even have to report bed bug incidents because they’re considered pests. They don’t carry diseases.
