Catholic U. Goes Solar

Catholic University of America is not known for its forward-thinking attitudes in some areas. But at least the school’s taking a bold approach to solar power!

Catholic announced this morning that it is installing 1,000 solar panels total on four buildings across its Brookland campus. The panels will apparently be installed at no cost to CUA, according to a university statement. Instead, the system will be owned and operated by Washington Gas Energy Services Inc.

You may be wondering, well how much of the campus’s electricity will the new system cover?

That answer’s a bit less impressive:

“The projected solar-generated electricity represents about three-quarters of 1 percent of the 44 million kilowatt hours used annually by the university,” the press release states.
