Stars including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Love Hewitt and David Arquette spent their Thanksgiving giving back, volunteering to help feed the hungry on Thursday, according to CNN.

The stars reportedly spent the day working for Feeding America, which contains more than 200 food banks.

“We’re going through a hard time as a country but we should have enough food to feed everyone,” David told CNN.

Other stars including Cindy Crawford, Tyler Perry, Matt Damon and Kirk Douglas — who hosts a yearly event at the Los Angeles Mission with wife Anne — also reportedly spent the day lending a helping hand.

“A lot of times you donate money or whatever, this is where you actually come in and work and serve a meal to someone who wouldn’t otherwise get it,” Cindy said.

And David said stars getting involved could also shed light on the problem of hunger, which CNN reported affected 1 in 8 Americans during 2007.

“One of the aspects of celebrity is that you can raise awareness for things,” he said. “It just really makes you feel good to be a part of something that’s helping people.”
